RE: Fishing in Canada & Alaska

Friend and I got dropped off in Simpsons Bay out of Cordova for pink salmon so I got out my ultra lite stuff. Had my 5 ft rod with 2 lb test Stren line and thought I had snagged a halibut with my little rooster tail and fought it for more than 45 minutes; even followed/towed it around for a while. We ended up "shovelling" it into the boat. Happened to see some folks using a guide and asked him what it was as I don't know one from another. Turns out it was a king salmon and the guide asks if I was using the Stren line he spots on my rod as it was yellow. I tell him its 2 lb test. He informs me that Stren has a contest going whereby anyone using their line and catches a new world record line record gets $10,000 but it needs official verification. He would call in a plane for $75 to pick it up and another $75 to have it checked out. I had weighed it on my "De-liar" which only went to 50 lbs. It was well over that and the guide didn't know what the 2 lb line record was for Kings. To make long story short; cheap Dutchman that I am I didn't want to spend the $150 so I cut it up and ate some of it and froze and sent it home. Turns out the world record at that time was 49 lbs. I keep telling myself that the "De-liar" must have been wrong!!!

RE: Mackinaw City, MI West via Rte 2

I drive 2 every year from Watersmeet MI to Minot. Plenty of places in almost every small town along the way. Free hookups at Bad River Indian casino. Very little traffic which I prefer as I travel solo for the solitude plus no-one tells me what I just missed.javascript:; Smilies

RE: Flags on campers

For everything I had to do to keep the rights and defend the freedoms we enjoy in this country and some fool asks to have it explained to him means this thread needs to be closed. Are you mods also "fools"?

RE: Sorry Canada

Going to Dore Lake SK for July instead of Alaska. I know it won't get any cheaper in the future; but maybe BC,YT and AK next year. "litew8t" I'll wave on my way past you.

Goin' to Alaska

Ok folks need some suggestions. I'll be travelling by myself with my 16'boat/70HP and strictly fishing. Would like to go thru BC and prefer the remote places. I've done a lot of fishing but never done grayling, sheefish, kokone?,dolly varden etc.Just picked up the"Milepost" which has so much to read. Got the month of July to do this. Will probably try to get to Homer to do some halibut. Thanks all.

RE: Will a sway bar help?

Much thanks to all the suggestions. Just ordered a Hellwig rear sway bar and will give it a go. Had to get the oddball kit as my truck has 11.5 rear. Its already got a front one so I saved there. Thanx again.

Will a sway bar help?

Just picked up a used T/C a Fleetwood Elkhorn with my 2004 Dodge LB Laramie with crew cab diesel and drove quite a few paved country roads and it seemed that it swayed quite a bit. Anyone install a rear or front sway bar and does it help much? I had a pop-up which weighed only about 1000 lbs so maybe I'm not used to the heavier weight. Thanks

RE: Plastic Trim

Its a Fleetwood Elkhorn. Not made anymore. What I'm looking for is the 1 1/8 inch wide white trim that fits on the edges. Mine is all chipped and cracked.

Plastic Trim

Anyone know where I can find the plastic trim that goes around the edges of tables and wall edges?

Very nice; I just finished restoring a '75 Hang 10 which took almost 3 years to finish.

RE: Camping and Fishing in the Florida Keys

I have been going to the Keys for almost 10 years now and just bought my 1st T/C but haven't found any place to stay yet. Everythings reserved for Jan-Mar. Looks like you had fun. How does one get in other than looking thru obit's?
